The Assam Cabinet<\/a> <\/span>has opted to cease the use of physical non-judicial stamps and expand the adoption of digital stamping methods. This move aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the stamping process and stamp duty payment system. It can effectively curb the fraudulent activities associated with traditional stamp papers, famously exploited by Abdul Karim Telgi in the 90s.<\/p>\n

Effective July 1, 2023, the sale of physical non-judicial stamps from treasuries across the state was discontinued. Furthermore, starting October 1, 2023, physical non-judicial stamps have been completely phased out, with limited exceptions for unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, the use of physical stamps may be allowed by the District Registrar, subject to prior approval from the Superintendent of Stamps.<\/p>\n
